SATURDAY SILLY

Image
Thanks for the photo Ev!   Didn't have a photo with a rain storm.  This is a southern Manitoba sunrise with sundogs. It looked dark enough for this story, lol! AN IRISH GHOST STORY (have no idea whether this is truth or fiction) John Bradford, a  Dublin  University student, was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very pitch black night and in the midst of a big storm. The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly, he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got into the car and closed the door.... only to realize there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on. The car started moving slowly again. John looked at the road ahead and saw a curve approaching. Scared, he started to pray, begging for his life. Then, just before the car hit the curve, a hand appeared out of nowhere through the window,...

THIS IS HOW WE KNOW

Image
from 1. John No one who is born of God will continue to sin,  because God's seed remains in him;  he cannot go on sinning,  because he has been born of God.  This is how we know   who the children of God are  and who the children of the devil are:  Anyone who does not do what is right  is not a child of God;  nor is anyone who does not love his brother. This is how we know   what love is:  Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.  And we ought to lay down  our lives for our brothers.  If anyone has material possessions  and sees his brother in need  but has no pity on him,  how can the love of God be in him?  Dear children,  let us not love with words or tongue  but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know   that we belong to the truth,  and how we set our hearts at rest  in his presence  whenever our hearts condemn us.  For God is greater tha...

MANY BLESSINGS MONDAY

Image
76. Spending time with my friend Erica, putting together some 10 Christmas shoe boxes/backpacks.  For months she plans, buys and then has friends come over to help pack everything up - she's aiming for a few hundred containers I think. She has a huge house and the whole family room is filled with supplies. 77. That the laundry basically does itself – I just have to put it into the machines and fold it later. I remember washdays with my mother in the old country – a washboard, a huge zinc tub straddled over two stools, boiling the water, hanging the wash on the line outside in the warm months, and hanging it in the attic during the winter; when dry then ironing everything and putting it away. We’ve come a long way!! 78. Many perfect days in October – 21C or 70F – whichever you prefer. Still went barefoot in sandals yesterday. 79. A fun movie – The Terminal – reminding me of our immigrant days and the difficulties our parents had with learning the language. 80. Ability...

ENOUGH TO LAST ALL DAY

Image
Off to watch the oldest play in a volleyball tournament! Need fuel for the game and for cheering! Ev's three sons are teen and pre-teen with hollow legs appetites! Great way to start the day! There's more than one way to have waffles and I think they were hamming it up just for me!

BEFORE THE SNOW FLIES

Image
Hubby and I are heading down south Looking forward to seeing these pastoral scenes along the way that will bring us ever closer to our kids and kidlets in southern Alberta. Pray for traveling mercies please! Wide open spaces! Green Acres is the place to be! (If you're old enough have I got you singing the theme song?) Wonder if the Pickers looking for antiques have been here. So many farms have man-made homes for cutter bees! Check out the information about the cutter bees HERE Things probably won't look as green as I took these photos in the spring! It's got a rugged beauty any time of year. HAVE A BLESSED WEEK-END EVERYONE!

THIS IS MY FATHER'S WORLD

All of you, my dear blog friends, have such gorgeous photos! Wish I could put them all in a YouTube video with this song playing! I'm so blessed by the beauty of my Father's world! (wish I could center the video, but blogger won't let me, lol)

SEEDS OF TURMOIL - BOOK REVIEW

Image
Did Abraham of Old Testament times ever dream that his personal life choice would have such far-reaching consequences, all the way to our present daily news, and that it would even alter the history of our world? Bryan Wright, author of SEEDS OF TURMOIL , helps the reader to see that the root of the current  Middle East conflict is “the consequence of Abraham’s sin, that of not trusting God in key moments of his life…. In spite of man’s bad decisions in life, God is still in control! … Abraham is revered as the father of the three most influential faiths of the world: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.” The easy to read style was very helpful as I’m not a scholar or professor.  Wright starts with several chapters of thorough biblical background.  This is very helpful for those who are not familiar with the Bible and the stories of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar, Isaac and Ishmael, Isaac and Rebecca, Esau and Jacob, and then Jacob and his new name Israel. I also suggest readi...

CAKE & COFFEE

Image
Sit down to a lovely Hummingbird Torte (recipe found here ) and enjoy a cup of delicious coffee in my Breath of Spring china cup! Why???? Because I'm so thankful the Lord has brought me through another year and blessed me more than I ever deserve! Thanks and praise be unto HIM! It's been a very difficult year and yet HE has kept HIS promise that HE would never leave me or forsake me! He'll do the same for you! Be blessed my friends!

JUST A THOUGHT

What if  some of these Chilean miners had said: You know, I kind of like it down here far from the noisy rat race of life. I've got claustrophobia and I'm not getting into that rescue cage. I don't trust that winch and maybe I'll get stuck in the middle of the ascent. I've gotten used to this place and I'm comfortable down here, I don't like change. I don't need to be rescued; leave me alone. and one hundred and one other reasons. Well, to me that looks like those people to whom salvation is freely offered, yet they refuse Christ's sacrifice for one reason or another. Thanking the Lord for the miracle of His salvation for the whole world and today specifically for the rescue of the miners in Chile!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING CANADA!

One of the decorations I made years ago for the Recreation Auditorium . **************** Received the following in an e-mail and wanted to share it with you. It's been around quite a while ! Be blessed my friends! I Am Thankful For... For the teenager who is not doing dishes  but is watching TV,  because that means he is at home  and not on the streets. For the taxes I pay,  because it means that I am employed. For the mess to clean after a party,  because it means that I have been surrounded by friends. For the clothes that fit a little too snug,  because it means I have enough to eat. For my shadow that watches me work,  because it means I am out in the sunshine. For a lawn that needs mowing,  windows that need cleaning,  and gutters that need fixing,  because it means I have a home. For all the complaining I hear about the government,  because it means that we have freedom of speech. For the parking spot I find at th...

DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES

Thanks Mel for photo   Thanks Evi for photo   "For man, autumn is a time of harvest,  of gathering together.  For nature, it is a time of sowing,  of scattering abroad."   Edwin Way Teale    Both are Truth! Let us not become weary in doing good,  for at the proper time  we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Galatians 6:9

MANY BLESSINGS MONDAY

Image
A Mountain Ash in our neighborhood my favorite tree this time of year! 61. Love, respect and appreciation in our marriage – for more than 44 yrs. 62. Friends whose love, respect and appreciation for us is demonstrated freely and faithfully through their words of encouragement and prayer. 63. Great Sunday message on The Lord is my Helper! When we are children we say, ‘I can do it by myself’. As we mature we realize that ‘I can’t do it myself’. I’m so glad to have an almighty Helper. 64. Seeing some of today’s youth show such love and care for our fragile elderly just warms my heart. Hope they’ll be around when we’re in need of care. 65. Watching young people skilfully use their awesome gifts in singing and playing instruments to serve the Lord through this humble service and to bring joy to the listener. 66. Sitting together with hubby and watching a meaningful TV show, sharing popcorn. 67. A week of fantastic fall weather! Still wearing sandals! 68. Living on the 9...

SATURDAY SILLY

Just got this through e-mail!     *You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old to REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this. For those of us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, please read on...*     *If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, 'Who's on First?' might have turned out something like this: *     COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you? COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer. ABBOTT: Mac? COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou. ABBOTT: Your computer? COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one. ABBOTT: Mac? COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou. ABBOTT: What about Windows? COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here? ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows? COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see wh...
