ANOTHER 25

Got these questions over at Betty's Wien's World and decided to answer them. Thanks Betty! Feel free to copy!

♥ What are your middle names?
We both use our middle name. The more interesting question might be, “What are your first names, lol”. His is Hans and mine is Brigitte. Haven’t used them in years!

♥ How long have you been together?
Since 1964 – 1 year of dating, 1 year of engagement and in 1966 we married.

♥ How long did you know each other before you started dating?
We happened to be baptized on the same day in 1955 – I was 11, he was 16 – but had no romantic notions then. His sister was my best girlfriend then.

♥ Who asked who out?
On January 1, 1964 or was it December 31st 1963, after being at our house with the youth group, he asked if we ‘could get to know each other better.’ I answered, ‘Yes.’ He called my dad to ask his permission to ‘get to know me better.’ Dad answered, ‘Of course! We have prayed to have a son-in-law like you.’ I sat on the stairs to eavesdrop and heard my father’s comment and nearly died. He just asked to start dating, not to marry me!! Yikes!

♥ How old are each of you?
Check previous answers.

♥ Whose siblings do/ did you see the most?
Because both our families attended the same church – we always saw both sides of the families.

♥ Do you have any children together?
We have two daughters and a son and now 9 grandchildren!!

♥ What about pets?
Does the goldfish that died and we flushed down the toilet count?

♥ Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
Being total opposites and not having any hobbies in common – especially now that we are retired. It's hard work!!

♥ Did you go to the same school?
Five years apart in age – we didn’t.

♥ Are you from the same home town?
Yes, both our families immigrated from Germany and settled in Winnipeg. Manitoba.

♥ Who is the smartest?
Hubby is a scholar and I am multi-skilled – which means expert at nothing!
I don’t know our IQ levels; we both have different kinds of intelligence. I’m much more emotionally intelligent than he is, LOL.

♥ Who is the most sensitive?
I used to be, but he is rubbing off on me.

♥ Where do you eat out most as a couple?
We love this plain, ordinary place that serves a breakfast all day. Also enjoy eating at the Olive Garden and Red Lobster.

♥ Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
From Canada to Israel and Europe.

♥ Who has the worst temper?
Neither one of us has a temper, but I have often substantially increased the volume of my voice for the benefit of our children who were mother-deaf, LOL! When I get angry about injustice done to me or mine, I get weepy.

♥ Who does the cooking?
When I was a stay-at-home mom and even looked after foster children along with our own, I did all the cooking, baking, hospitality etc. Now that we’re retired and I still work part-time, hubby knows how to make several good meals and has them started by the time I get home from work.

♥ Who is more social?
Hands down – me! I’m the initiator to invite, to go out, to attend church meetings, etc. However, in recent years I’ve withdrawn more and more socially – because it is really no fun to attend social functions without one’s spouse.

♥Who is the neat Freak?
I’m better organized, efficient and love a clean place. I leave his study and his desk alone – trying to motivate by the occasional nagging. (It doesn’t work!!) I honestly enjoy cleaning! I do not allow my place to get so cluttered that I’m overwhelmed. With just a quick hand and not too much effort, I’m able to have everything look spiffy and picture perfect – for my eye that is. I was 15 when I was a cleaning lady for some wealthy ladies in our town. Hey, I was a big, strong, efficient German girl and I was proud that I met their standards of cleanliness! Now it’s in my bones!

♥ Who is the more stubborn?
In a very quiet, dignified way, he is. He shall not be moved if he does not chose to be! I’m the first to give in unless it is something that has to do with conscience and absolutely not negotiable.

♥ Who hogs the bed?
We are both sized much better than average. We own a King sized bed, two twin mattresses and a king-sized headboard, and have no squabbles about anyone hogging anything.

♥ Who wakes up earlier?
Hubby has ALWAYS been up first – all our married life. That’s the way he likes it and I’m fine with that. He needs his space and I give it freely.

♥ Where was your first date?
When he asked me on December 31st to get to know me better – he left the next day by bus to complete his studies at a university way out east. We wrote love letters – I still have each one. When he returned home in the summer, our first date was to Dairy Queen for a 5 cent ice cream cone. We walked everywhere – had no car even the first year of marriage. We still hold hands!

♥ Who has the bigger family?
We both have 2 siblings. I still have my mom in the nursing home. I have the greater extended family that still keeps in touch.

♥ Do you get flowers often?
Often? No. Sometimes? Yes! No expectations either. If I want flowers I can buy them. Today is Valentine’s and I didn’t get a card, flowers, or chocolate.

♥ How do you spend the holidays?
We’ve taken several wonderful vacations together and have several more ideas up our sleeves.

♥ Who is more jealous?
Neither one of us. I love when people compliment him to me and when he spends time with friends, even without me. He had absolutely gorgeous, stunning, young women as his students and colleagues. I trusted him, didn’t need to trust them!

♥ How long did it take to get serious?
Just a few letters!

♥ Who eats more?
He does, but also is able to exercise more than I. Consequently, I’m the chubby one.

Who does the laundry?
I do. Always! But I taught him how to fold a load if need be.

Who’s better with the computer?
I am. I’ve taught him how to do e-mails for his stamp selling and buying hobby.

Who drives when you are together?
Used to be always that hubby drove, but lately it is more moi. He drives still as aggressive as when he was young and had amazing reflexes. His reflexes have slowed (our kids agree) and his aggressiveness now freaks me out! Now he LET’S me drive because my freaking out drives him nuts. I hate the thought of someday having to make the decision to stop driving altogether!!

This was fun – try it for yourself!

This was really interesting. Thanks for doing it too.
I should have put your answer down at the question, which sit. is hardest on us as a couple. It is the same for us. We are totally opposite and often it is so hard to find stuff that we both enjoy.
But....I guess that´s what makes life interesting!

That is neat, Karin, finding out more about you. Are your kids and grandkids nearby??? Mine are not--which is good and bad! I miss them--but wouldn't want them around all of the time, like my friend Judy.

My hubby collects stamps also.. The good news about us is that we have alot of hobbies --which keep us busy, yet we spend 24/7 together--and love it. We still have lots and lots of stuff in common.

Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy
