MONDAY MEME

Thanks to Betty from Paraguay, at her new blog, A glimpse into midlife I get to do an interesting meme. I quite enjoy doing memes because I run out of ideas for my blog. Imagine, moi, who is otherwise fairly creative!!

Here are the rules:

1. Respond and rework, (or not); answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your invention or add one more question of your own.

2. Tag other people (or not). Sounds simple enough, right?

Here are my answers...

What is your current obsession/hobby/spare time activity? In my spare time I’m always on my laptop. Reading blogs, chatting with my daughters, sister on facebook, playing FarmTown application, playing Scrabble and blogging. For a number of years I was a volunteer in the Christian chat ministry! Hey, I should get back into that!

What are you wearing today?

We’re having a beautiful hot day here and I’ve got on Capri pants, a t-shirt and a smile!

What’s for dinner?

We don’t have air-conditioning in our apartment on the 9th floor – just a lovely fan. I don’t want to add to the heat already in the apartment, so – ok I confess – I picked up a pizza! Last night was a huge chef’s salad. Yum!! Tomorrow – any ideas??

What are you listening to right now?

The Discovery Channel is on with The Edge of the Universe.

Which language do you want to learn?

It would be interesting to learn Hebrew and Greek – but I don’t think I’m up to it.

What do you love most about where you currently live?

Actually, in recent months, I have had a strong desire to move to a smaller city. Edmonton is a lovely city but it is growing so fast and there isn’t a night that we don’t hear emergency vehicle sirens. Our province looks well after its seniors though, so I’d best be staying here and just take vacations in the winter months. I love all the greenery, the river valley and many very special people!

What style is your current home decorated in?
I think they call it eclectic – a little of this and a little of that! My favorite is the Ethan Allen Queen Anne style bedroom furniture we bought while we lived in New York – 36 years ago! My recliner-couch is my favorite spot and is starting to show wear!

If you were a time traveler what era would you live in?
Although I loved Betty’s answer, “Back to the time when round, chubby women were all the rage,” I don’t want to be the rage, lol. I’ve always been a big, strong girl and woman, and hubby has loved me big, chubbier and chubbiest! I think that I would love to have lived in Christ’s time, but maybe not. OK, so I’m indecisive!

What is your favorite color?
Oh, that one is tough! Depends for what – decorating, wearing, eating, painting???

What is your favorite piece of clothing in your own wardrobe?

I have a black and white sweater I wear often and I’m always in black slacks.

What were you doing ten years ago?
Our girls were already married and our son still lived at home. We had sold our house due to hubby’s illness and moved into a condominium. I worked as the Manager of Volunteer Services in the long-term care centre, a Foundation with which I am still employed, but after my retirement, only part-time. We already had 3 grands!!

If you had $300 now, what would you spend it on? I was going to buy myself a camera, but hubby brought one home as a gift when he returned from visiting our son and family in Pennsylvania. Hubby helped out with the family needs for 3 weeks! I’m so proud of him! I stayed home and continued working my shifts. I’m going to have to learn all about this camera now. I’d be able to spend the $300.00 on a carpet cleaner. Getting the carpets cleaned only once a year now costs way over 100 bucks already!

When was the last time you cried? At our prayer meeting a few weeks ago. The Lord knows why.

What are your favorite films?

I do enjoy a light-hearted romantic comedy for pure escapism and other films for their quick and witty dialogue.
Favorite? Don't have one.

Your favorite book?
I used to read, and read, and read whenever I could. I’d have several books going at once! In recent months, or perhaps a year, I haven’t had a book in my hand because there is so much wonderful stuff to read on my laptop. There, I’ve confessed it!

What was the most enjoyable thing you did today?

Our daughter and family is on vacation! I went to doggy-sit, itsy-bitsy Milo! A cute, long-haired Chihuahua! We played fetch! I threw the ball, he fetched! It would have been more beneficial for moi, if it had been the other way around!! I enjoyed her house, did a few cleaning favors for her - I love to clean - relaxed outside on the patio, thrilled at hearing the birds in the trees, and even had a little nap!

What are the things you would never blog about?
I don’t like burdening other people with the specific challenges of my life. I also won’t vent on my blog. I think that venting would probably help me at times, but would certainly not be edifying to someone else. Most times I just need to talk to the Lord or get a proper perspective by looking at those who are worse off than me. I’ve also learned that not everything I think, I need speak, or write lol!

How did you build traffic to your blog? Our middle daughter was the one who started the blog for me – ‘just a place to put your poetry’ mom. I enjoyed visiting many, many bloggers at Blog Around The World. I learned a lot about all kinds of places and people around the world. Sometimes I would comment; other times I just lurked. I even had a counter for a while, but felt that I would be disappointed if no one came to read my blog. I decided then and there that I would simply blog my ‘stuff’ and would enjoy those who came by to comment. I linked all the blogs that I enjoy reading and when they post something new their blog comes to the top of the list.

What makes you follow a blog?

Good writing, common interest, i.e. flowers, birds, skies, great pics, positive attitude, and especially something encouraging or something to ‘chew’ on in my faith walk. Some blogs have all the above, and others focus on one thing.

What advice would you give bloggers?
I’m not in a position to give advice on this – I would need to follow it myself, lol!

Ann's Question:
What makes you comment on a blog?
Can’t put my finger on it!

Tonya's Question:
What is a talent you wished you had? I have been blessed with some talents and I wish I could do them with more excellence! I play the piano, accordion (past), write poetry and translate lyrics, did floral silk arrangements, can speak publicly, and used to bake and cook very well! I wish I could write inspirational and devotional material.

Melissa's Question:
Would you want your blog to be as popular as Dooce? What would be some of the pros and cons? DEFINITELY NO! Being in the limelight is not my role in life. I’m glad that it works for her, so totally unexpectedly. Sometimes such a quick rise to the top is followed by a quick descent – unless she is wise with her sudden popularity and keeps a good head on her shoulders. It’s just a wave and she should ride it while she can!

Joanna Jenkin’s Question: What's surprised you about your blog? That wonderful people share comment love and even come back to read! Yes, YOU!!

Betty´s Question: How many blogs do you follow or subscribe to? I have all the ones I follow in my Places I Visit links and haven’t counted them lately! Hope they are all still active, lol.

Karin's Question: Have you met any bloggers in person? I've met two - Laurie from McMahon Manifesto and Doris from Beck Bulletin - beautiful godly women! Their links are in Places to Visit!

Feel free to ask other questions and to participate in this meme if you would like!!

Have an awesome day!

Very nice, Karin. I think memes are good (IF you run out of things to say--like my hubby does)... ha.. Me??? I have YET to run out of things to say, so I have not joined any memes.

Memes also get more people to your blog--which I certainly don't need (since I have to answer all of these new people)... Right now, I have plenty of followers without using memes. I cannot spend anymore time on the computer than I already do. ha

I do try to stay positive on my blog--and I think that most people like that. I also like to visit bloggers who tell me something about themselves and their lives. Recently, someone had a picture of being in an airplane going who knows where. She said nothing about her trip ---so I just skipped right over that one and made no comments. If people don't give details, then how can I comment?

I do like some Photo Blogs IF they tell what the picture is about. I like a combination of pictures and writing on one's blog the most. What else do you want to know???? ha ha

I love your blog, Karin, because of your poems and stories. You SHOULD publish. You do have a gift of writing inspirational material--even if you don't think you do.

Hope you have a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Betsy
