I LOVE WINTER!

I love winter! I love snow! I love photos of snow-covered mountains and valleys, of snow like fluffy cotton balls on trees, of blankets of snow on everything!

Notice I didn’t say anything about loving the cold,
the treacherous winter driving conditions,
the shoveling or
the avalanches that claim lives!

To me SNOW is just so pure, (analysis by a scientist would prove me wrong, I’m sure!) enchanting and remarkably beautiful. Each snowflake unique ~ no two alike it is said. I remember trying to catch the falling snow on my tongue! I remember making snow-angels, building snow forts, throwing snowballs!

Some simply love winter sports in the snow! Skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, skating, etc. etc…. I remember the expression on the face of someone who visited us and had NEVER even seen snow. Priceless!

Snow like in these pictures are a fond memory of growing up years. Blizzard? No school! No trucks removed the snow - it was piled up in windrows and we walked along the top. There are cars under the snow in the above picture.

Every time the softly falling snow covers the ground,
I’m reminded of the hymn by Fanny Crosby:

Though your sins be as scarlet
They shall be as white as snow
Though your sins be as scarlet
They shall be as white as snow
Though they be red like crimson
They shall be as wool!"
"Though your sins be as scarlet
Though your sins be as scarlet
They shall be as white as snow
They shall be as white as snow."

Hear the voice that entreats you
O return ye unto God!
Hear the voice that entreats you
O return ye unto God!
He is of great compassion
And of wondrous love
Hear the voice that entreats you
Hear the voice that entreats you
O return ye unto God!
O return ye unto God!

He'll forgive your transgressions
And remember them no more
He'll forgive your transgressions
And remember them no more
"Look unto Me, ye people,"
Saith the Lord your God!
He'll forgive your transgressions
He'll forgive your transgressions
And remember them no more
And remember them no more

I love the brilliance of a crisp, cold, yet sunny winter day in the prairies. The spectacular sundogs are amazing! The light is stunning and blinding and I must avert my gaze! God’s holiness reveals my sinfulness.

Just like the sand, the gravel, the salt, the hurried footprints of countless people soon enough mar the purity of the freshly fallen snow, He reminds me that my sins, are as scarlet and mar my life in the same way! Yet He makes them as white as snow!!

Once again I rejoice and my heart is warmed by HIS LOVE!
His kindness is like snow - it beautifies everything it covers!

Special thanks to Doris and Anneliese
for allowing me to use their photos!!

Hi Karin ~ Loving snow and coming from a Canadian who sees lots of it ~ that is saying so much. Your pics are beautiful. I loved your correlation to our sin and how Christ makes us whiter than snow. Amen. Blessings Cathryn

It's definitely pretty, but I don't like it.. It'd rather have warm summer! :)

I love it, too. It is one of the things I missed when we lived in TN. Except for those years we've always lived on top of hills where deep snows meant that we had to stay and read books while nestled near a fire.

I love the look of a new-fallen snow: so fresh and clean. So unspoiled for awhile. Kind of like a new year.

Thanks for the lovely reminder of how the Scripture uses the image to describe our forgiven lives.

Beautiful post! I still love the snow too, especially against a blue sky...and through the window of my warm house.

oooooh! Such beauty! Thank you for sharing. I must admit, all that white is completely foreign to me (a CA girl), but I love it nonetheless!
