A FULL PANTRY

Every Saturday without fail hubby does the family grocery shopping. He takes his provider role very seriously. When we were newlyweds, we shopped together. When the children came, it was the best solution that the one who could drive, would go out and hunt for the best grocery prices. He’s the expert on comparison shopping! He buys the best all within the family budget. After all, he is shopping for the people he loves most. All week long we add items that need to be replenished to our shopping list. My habit has long been that when I start on my last container, I put it on the list because I don’t want to be without my favourite staples and supplies. In between the big shopping excursions there are the quick-stops for perishable items, like milk and bread. In our student years of financial strain, we often had to go without, until we could afford it. It was frustrating to run out of something and have to wait until shopping day. Those were the days when neighbour could still run to neighbour and borrow a cup of sugar. If you have ever lived in a rural area, far away from the big city and you only shop for groceries once a month, running out of something is no fun. I’m sure you know what I mean.

Not so with our spiritual supply! The pantry of His Word is full to overflowing. There is never any shortage. You never have to make a list. You never have to wait until you can afford it. There is nothing perishable. There is always a banquet feast available in the Word of God to meet your every need. There is milk; there is meat, and the choicest morsels. There is honey! There is bread! There is every kind of good thing to nurture your spirit. You may have a solid breakfast, a hearty meal at noon, and a small snack at supper. Or you can nibble all day. The selection is remarkable. Whatever you hunger for is available. Have a deep thirst? There is Living Water! There is Wine. You need never run out! There is a vast supply. And best of all, there is always enough to share with the rest of the world. This Food Bank is for all those who are spiritually needy! It is yours and it’s free! Taste and see that the Lord is good! Could it be that often we fill ourselves up with physical food, when what we really need is to nourish our spirit? Just as our bodies require physical food to stay alive, so, too, our spirits need to be fed with God’s Word. Even if our bodies can handle days of fasting, we should always feast on God’s Word and never take a fast from it.

“Ho, every one who thirsts, come to the waters;
and he who has no money, come, buy and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk, without money and without price.”

Isaiah 55:1

Heavenly Father, thank you for your daily provisions! Today let us seek you while you may be found, and call upon you while you are near. Let us feast on your goodness and generosity all day long. Then we shall not want. Amen.

That's great your hubby does the grocery shopping. It's nice to have that taken care of. Darrell often does the grocery shopping here as well. Not all the time though since I 'sometimes' like to go.
